Matibabu is an innovative tool that detects early signs of malaria. Founded in 2018 by Brian Gitta, the device works by beaming bright light on a patient’s finger. Brian developed the device when four blood tests failed to detect his malaria. The Matibabu device diagnoses the disease from the patient without pricking them for blood samples.
- 54 gene – Nigeria
54gene is an innovative pharmaceutical research and development startup founded in 2019 by Dr. Abasi was performed by An-Obong. This startup is based in Nigeria and intends to fill the gap in the genomics industry worldwide. Currently, about 90 percent of the genetic material that supports pharmaceutical research is Caucasian with Africa contributing only 2 percent.
- Yapili – Kenya
Yapili is a startup in Rwanda that connects patients with health specialists. The startup was founded in 2014 by six entrepreneurs who together designed an online platform to match users and doctors.

In addition, the firm partners with major hospitals and clinics around the world and is included in the list of top 10 healthcare startups in Africa.
- CardioPad Project
CardioPad is an innovative startup, providing various solutions to nurses and cardiologists, for example, firm alternative solutions in managing the problem of cardiac arrest in patients. It uses a biometric data management tool to transfer the necessary data to relevant people in the ecosystem.

Medexperts is one of the healthcare startups in Africa, based on offering digital community services in Nigeria. The firm provides a platform that allows patients and medical experts to access and share important information
- Safermom
Empower pregnant and new mothers (with children up to one year old) to make informed health decisions through the use of ubiquitous mobile technology (SMS, voice call services and mobile apps). The platform serves to deliver important health information to important and new mothers using interactive, personalized and low-cost mobile technologies, including SMS and voice calls in local languages. The startup recently emerged as one of the top six winners of the Internet.org Innovation Challenge at the Africa Awards.

- Ubanwa
It is developing a machine learning system that can take as input the infant’s crying, analyze patterns of amplitude and frequency in crying, allowing for immediate diagnosis of birth. Their diagnostic software test results showed a sensitivity of over 86% and specificity of 89%.
- Medsf
Medsf is an e-health startup that is making the process of buying and selling drugs easy and efficient in Nigeria’s complex health system. Medsaf provides customers with a robust inventory management system that allows them to view real-time stock levels for their drugs, receive order reminders and alerts, and access historical sales data for forecasts. In 2017 Medsaf was named the most promising startup in Nigeria at Seedstars Lagos and will represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland to compete for up to USD 1 million in equity investment and other awards.
- GenRx
This App is designed to detect drugs near the expiration date among drug stocks, detect the potential drug overdose before the drug is sent to patients, and detect the wrong drug combinations. The startup was one of five startups selected in 2015 to pitch in Entrepreneur Hub, organized through a partnership between Informara, Nigeria’s Venovation Hub and Disiplin Africa.
