5 Startups In Nigeria

A number of startups based in Nigeria and owned by Nigerians.  In contrast, technically the base record exceeds 710 registered Nigerian startups.

  Although the Nigerian tecosystem is not where it is supposed to be, its trajectory is commendable.  Since the first set of Internet service providers were licensed in Nigeria in 1996, the technology system has grown in leaps and bounds.  So much so that the country has now produced a unicorn – interswitch.

 

  1. Eden

 

  Eden is a concierge service for homes.  Not a typical tech startup, but it is “a technology-enabled, human-driven service that works to run your home so that you can focus on the things that really matter in life.”

 

  In short, “Eden is a cheap quintessentially made by Africans, made for Africans.”

  Eden was co-founded in 2019 by Andela-Nadeyar Engesi (CEO) co-founder and his two other former Andela colleagues – Prosper Otmuiva (CTO) and Silm Momo (Product Lead).

 

  2.Paystack

 

  Launched in 2015, Paytac allows merchants to receive live, platform-agnostic payments, and allows for recurring billing.  The startup, which raised a US $ 8 million Series A funding round nearly two years ago, is now expanding its offering into the e-commerce space with the launch of Paystack Commerce.

 

  3.AtaraPay

 

  AtaraPay was created with the online entrepreneur in mind.  It is very useful for social media sellers on Facebook or Instagram and other service providers working offline or online.  Such businesses include car sales, real estate deals, currency exchanges, service providers involved in freelancing, and the gig economy in general.

 

  4.Simplygreen

 

  Simply Green Juice is Nigeria’s first farm-to-bottle, organic, cold-pressed juice company.  The company grows all the fruits and vegetables used in the production of its various juices at a farm in Oyo State.  Simple Green CEO Sola Ladoja said that he wishes to reduce imports of fruits and vegetables in Nigeria, as most of them can be grown locally.  The agricultural entrepreneur started the business when he noticed that Nigeria did not have good quality green juices, compared to New York where he had previously been living.  He further stated that he started the business in 2014 with N250,000 (US $ 700) and now the business has developed into millions of naira.

 

  5.Donate-NG

 

  Donet-NG is an online fundraising and crowdfunding portal in Nigeria where individuals and charities with social causes and projects can easily raise funds.

 

  The portal was launched as a spin-off in January 2016 by co-founders of its parent company Twokan Solutions Ltd: Olakunle Olinka, Segun Oljo-Kosoko, Ayodale Amusa and Aihab Afazez, providing a convenient and verifiable way  In the dialect for  Raising funds for charitable causes in Nigeria.
